What we store, in plain English

When you submit a count

We store the count itself: the numbers you entered, the station, the time, the sky condition, how long the count took, and any note you added. None of this identifies you.

The anonymous device identifier

Your browser keeps a random identifier so scientists can tell that a series of counts came from the same device — repeat counts are statistically valuable. It contains nothing about you, is never shared with other websites, and clearing your browser's site data removes it permanently.

If you give us your email

That's entirely optional and only used to send occasional project updates. We will confirm your address by email before the first update arrives, every message will include an unsubscribe link, and you can ask for your address to be deleted at any time.

What we don't do

No advertising, no analytics trackers, no third-party scripts, no cookies that need a banner, no selling or sharing of anything.
